SHIVAJI RAO GAEKWAD hails from a remote village in A.P –T.N border. A conductor who dreamt to act in movies joined in an acting school in Chennai.

He impressed eminent director K Balachander with his queries as he came to the institute for interaction with aspiring wannabe actors. The doubts young Shivaji asked created an impact and the ace film maker felt something special, which finally landed him in a role in the Kamal Hassan starrer `APOORVA RAGANGAL`.

It turned out to be the first step in his multi-storeyed film career. He decided to watch his movie on the first day itself AUG 15, 1975. Due to the heavy rush Shivaji couldn’t get the ticket for the morning show. He pleaded with the theatre manager saying he’s an actor and this is his maiden film. Even this did not deter manager’s mind. Though dejected, waiting in the queue he grabbed the ticket for the next show. He watched the movie with much interest and looked around to see whether anyone has recognised him. He often repeated this every time after a scene featuring him appeared on the 70mm screen. But none of them recognised this debuting actor even after the film has ended. Disappointed Shivaji was about to leave the theatre when a little young girl recognised him. His first fan from the millions he’s having now around the globe.

Rajinikanth The humble man from a humble beginning.
